THE ALBUM OF THE DAY
GEORGE HARRISON...Gone Troppo (1982)
(CD, vinyl)
1982's Gone Troppo just kinda sneaked out on its release day with hardly any promotion of any kind...no advertising, no mention in the music trade papers and certainly no tour. Perhaps George just thought "hey, here's my new music, like it or don't." This author certainly likes it. It has been described by many as perhaps the worst solo Beatle album, which I wholeheartedly disagree with. "Wake Up My Love", "Dream Away" and "Mystical One" are the highlights. This is today's Album Of The Day to pay tribute to George on the 10th anniversary of his death

THE ALBUM OF THE DAY
U2...Achtung Baby (1991)
(Box Set, vinyl box set, Allmusic review)

U2's intention with Achtung Baby was to deliberately make an album that was different than 1987's The Joshua Tree. They succeded, with very good results. This record threw the band into the 90's with a heavier sound as the bass is very upfront throughout the songs. The different approach indeed was effective and now, unbelievably, the album is 20 years old. Definitely recommended
