THE ALBUM OF THE DAY
ROD STEWART...Body Wishes  (1983)
Body Wishes was released 30 years ago in 1983 and it reached number 30 on the U.S. Billboard album charts.  I'll give this a 2 out of 5 stars.  I give it only the 2 stars because when compared to Rod's previous releases this is a weak album, but yet not to bad at the same time.  First, the album cover is definitely a tribute to the Elvis album 50,000 Elvis Fans Can't be Wrong, both of which are pictured to the left. Second, the album rocks from time to time, but there was definitely the 80's vibe going on a bit to much for us diehard Stewart fans.  The two best tracks are the last 2, "Strangers Again" and "Satisfied." Both numbers are slow ballads which I found to be quite good.  "Move Me" is a cool rocker.  I recommend it but if you're hoping for a rockin' Rod Stewart album catch one of his earlier releases

2008 John Mellencamp is inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
2009 Scream by Chris Cornell is released
2010 Pink Floyd sues their label EMI over iTunes sales of individual songs. EMI argues that separating the songs only applies to their physical releases
2010 Lawyers for Phil Spector appeal his ’09 murder conviction claiming he didn’t get a fair trail. Spector was sentenced to prison for 19 years to life for shooting actress Lana Clarkson at his California mansion in ‘03
2010  At a Metallica concert in Cambodia fans who could not get tickets riot outside the venue.  Police use tanks and 160 people are arrested
2011  It is announced that Donnie Steele would be replacing the late Paul Gray as  basist for Slipknot.  Steele was a founding member of Slipknot

THE ALBUM OF THE WEEK
RED...Release The Panic  (2013)
Release The Panic was recently released and is currently at number 7 on the US Billboard Album Charts.  This is hardcore metal mania right here, buddy!  It's a bit to hardcore for me.  However, Red is a Christian based band and that is always an A+ in my book.  If you're fans of bands like Chevelle and Stone Sour than this is right up your alley.  Best tracks: "So Far Away" "Hold Me Now".  Recommended if you like this type of metal, because it's in your face, for sure

2008 An ex member of Boston, Barry Goudreau, had been performing the Boston classic "More Than A Feeling" at rallies for Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee. Tom Scholtz sends Huckabee a letter asking him to stop using "something of mine and using it to promote ideas to which I am opposed"

The ALBUM OF THE DAY
RED...Until We Have Faces (2011)
(CD, Allmusic review)

When I saw that a Christian rock band currently is at number 2 on the U.S. Billboard album charts I knew I wanted to check it out. Red has had some success on alternative and mainstream rock stations and I was already familiar with them so I knew that some of this album would be pretty hardcore metal, and it is. On some of the tracks Michael Barnes just shreds his vocal chords. But the whole CD is not like that. In fact, the highlights for me are the "calmer" tracks, like "Not Alone", "Best Is Yet To Come" and the incredibly beautiful track "Hymn For The Missing". While listening to that track I was wishing the whole album was like that. If you like bands like Sevendust or Slipknot you'll like the majority of this album, so with that in mind I recommend it. If that's not your cup of tea you may want to stay away from this one. I'm glad to see a Christian rock band doing so well
