The ALBUM OF THE DAY
ROD STEWART...The Rod Stewart Album (1969)
(CD, Allmusic Review)

Two days ago I mentioned that I wanted to keep having debut albums as the AOTD for a little while, and then yesterday I mentioned I wished Rod would do some more rock albums, so today I had to dig this one out. It had been a very long time since I played this record, and it was much better than I remembered. This Rod Stewart solo debut album reached number 139 on the U.S. Billboard charts. Here is Stewart young, vibrant, being a rocker, giving us a bare rock 'n'roll album, using drums, bass, guitar, piano and organ (no synths used here) and that familiar voice. The highlights for me are his version of the Rolling Stones "Street Fighting Man", the beautiful "Handbags And Gladrags" and "An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down". This isn't the beginning of RS's career but a good start to his solo recordings. Check this one out, I recommend it
