The ALBUM OF THE DAY
GEORGE HARRISON...All Things Must Pass (1970)
(CD, LP, Allmusic review)
In tribute, as today would have been George's 68th birthday. George jumped out of the Beatles and landed himself a huge hit with this album, which reached number 1 on the U.S. Billboard charts. Based on all the research I could find All Things Must Pass is the second highest selling solo album from the Beatles, behind McCartney's Band On The Run. This is a fantastic album, only thing is that sometimes you kinda wish Phil Spector was not the producer. I have a feeling that these songs presented in an atmosphere of no "echo" or "wall of sound" it would be an even better record. Nevertheless, it's still wonderful as the songs George wrote are crafted together so well. Harrison was such a great songwriter as he did support John and Paul all those years, it was bound to rub off. Highlights: "Art Of Dying", "Let It Down", "Run Of The Mill", "Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)", to just name a few. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
