The ALBUM OF THE DAY
ALICE COOPER...Pretties For You (1969)
(CD, LP, Allmusic review)

The debut album for Alice Cooper, in this case referring to the band rather than the individual, only reached number 193 on the U.S. Billboard album charts. I've been having a blast checking out all these debut albums lately. Most of them are great records, but this time I can't tell you that. I had never heard this release before. In fact, I had no idea that Alice Cooper had released an album as early as 1969. The hard rock sound they would develop is hinted at throughout the record but this debut has the 60's-psychedelic-Cream/Doors sound to it. The album isn't that great. It's not horrible but not a classic album. Highlights for me are "Sing Low, Sweet Cheerio", "Fields Of Regret" and "Reflected". I recommend you check it out if you're curious to see how their career got going, otherwise you can skip this one
